Whether you feel you should dress-up your pet or not, it is recommended that you keep a Chi warm and protected from the elements.  We like to have a small selection of coats, T-shirts, etc.

OK so here is the advert - but not really apologising because this supplier (Pure Country...) has a good range of clothes, etc, at reasonable prices, and when we have bought from them we have had good service (click below).

Should you "dress-up" your Chihuahua?

I think this subject is more of an issue to some dog owners than others.  I personally cringe when I see a Chi "dressed-up" in miniature human clothes, and with silly accessories.  But the worst you can say about it, possibly, is that the owner must be careful to remember that her Chi is a living animal, and mustn't be treated like an inanimate object (with any injury that might result from such carelessness).

Having said that, I will make sure any Chi that I have is sufficiently warm and dry, and if that means putting a tee-shirt on her in the house (when we are inclined to wear sweaters rather than put heating on), then that seems fine to me.  Likewise, in going out in inclement weather I feel it important that she wears something appropriate.

So what about other clothes?  Again I feel we need to be careful to remember she isn't a doll but I know some members of my family like to put PJs on them, especially when it's cold at night (oops, this is dressing-up!).  Is this starting to get a bit silly - perhaps but I have noticed that our Chi's don't seem to mind too much, and there does seem to be some benefit to them, and how serious do we have to be?

I feel it's important, however, to make sure these garment are removed if there is the slightest chance of over-heating or if the Chi is no longer being adequately supervised, such that they could become tangled in the clothing.
